# Reconfirmation email

*Reputation*. An email message sent to existing recipients asking them to confirm that they still want your messages. This is also known as a re-opt-in email message.

Email messages sent to a recipient that had opted-in to receiving your email messages might not get delivered.

To determine which recipients remain active, monitor the recipients' engagement with your email messages. This means tracking [opens][] and [clicks][], not [deliveries][], [blocks][], and [bounces][]. As you see decreases in engagement and increases in deliverability issues, consider cleaning your contact list. To remind recipients with which you correspond about your business, send a reconfirmation email.

Reconfirming recipient email addresses maintains [list][lists] health. The reasons why a recipient email address causes issues include:

* The recipient abandoned the email address
* The recipient lost interest in your content
* The recipient address might have been recycled to a different person
* The recipient address might have been converted to a [spam trap][]

These email addresses might then [bounce][bounces], return as [undeliverable][], flagged as an [unknown user][], or marked as [spam][]. These results all harm your [email reputation][ers] and your [email deliverability][deliverability].

To any recipients who you haven't corresponded with or otherwise interacted with using email in over *3 months*, send reconfirmation messages.
The message contains two links: one link to re-opt in and one link to opt-out. If a recipient doesn't click the opt-in link, remove their email address from your list. They choose not to engage with your email messages.

Cleaning your contact list with greater frequency maintains your reputation and reduces deliverability issues.
