# Allowlist

*Internet Security*. A curated selection of domains, email addresses, or IP addresses that a service or system has granted explicit access.

Systems, services, and apps use allowlists for access control. To attempt to access an account with an allowlist, a user must have the appropriate attributes and values. *Allowlist* had referred to a list of IP addresses allowed to send mail to a specific inbox provider. These email allowlists have fallen out of favor.

## Allowlists in Twilio SendGrid

The Twilio SendGrid [IP Access Management][] security feature uses of allowlists. If you add someone's IP address to an allowlist, they can access your Twilio SendGrid account.

> \[!WARNING]
>
> You might encounter the term *whitelist*. The term *allowlist* replaces that term and eliminates any potential racial or cultural connotations associated with the earlier term.
