# Building with Email in Twilio Flex

Twilio Flex orchestrates inbound and outbound emails for your contact center. Alongside [Conversations](/docs/flex/conversations), it's one of the key asynchronous channels for your contact center and offers options for customization.

To start customizing Email in Flex, you'll need some basic familiarity with [the Conversations API](/docs/conversations) and [the Flex UI](/docs/flex/developer/ui). Conversations help you access the actual messages being sent in the Flex UI, while the Flex UI allows you to control how emails are rendered for your contact center agents.
